Full name: Gabriel "Mac" Mackenzie
Age: 26
Birthday: February 11, 1982
Occupation: Jack of All Trades. Currently a "Manny" and aspiring poet/novelist.
Location: New York City

Literary Character: Delirium from The Sandman
Ability: Mac has the ability to understand people that most other people misunderstand. The homeless guy shouting out nonsensical things? Mac totally gets it. The baby in the stroller that burbles random sounds? He's had quite a few existential conversations with them. Problem is that sometimes Mac comes off nonsensical as well.

Personality: Gabriel "Mac" Mackenzie is, in a word, rather odd. He didn't just march to his own drum, he created his own damn marching band. Offbeat and weird, he didn't actually have ADD but might as well have. He has an order to things, but it's an order that he gets and can't quite explain to anyone else. When not working, Mac is scatterbrained and easily distracted. Even while working, he's sometimes scatterbrained. But he means well. He always means well.

Mac is a student of Life, and makes awesome observations. Sadly, most people stare at him blankly when he waxes philosophical. He was used to it though and simply grinned that boyish grin before moving onto other things.

In spite of his scattered ways, Mac is a loyal friend. He's the go-to guy for silly antics and sillier conversations and is always looking out for those he cares about. When things are at their utmost dire, Mac focuses intently to collect himself and help with the problem.

History:

Five Major Events --

1. And on the 11th day of February, 1982, God created Gabriel. Or rather, nine months earlier Jonathan and Carly Mackenzie created Gabriel. On a rainy February day in a small suburb about two hours from New York City, Gabriel came to join the world. He was a bit of a surprise, as he wasn't expected to arrive until two weeks later in the month, but was born relatively healthy and happy in spite of this. Gabe is the youngest of three children, his older brother and sister three and two years his senior respectively.

2. At fifteen, Gabriel..who was going by his nickname of Mac now..was introduced to Mister Incoherent himself, Bob Dylan. Well, not really to Mr. Dylan, but to his music. And it was love at first listen. While his friends complained that Dylan made no fuckin' sense whatsoever and moved on to other classic artists, Mac was enthralled with his lyrics and the fact that he got it. Dylan knew, man. It was everyone else who didn't understand. The same could be same about the poetry book Howl and any other rambling beatnik era poetry. To other people they were nonsense. To Mac, they were like the enlightening words of any influential persona.

3. At eighteen, Mac moved to New York City. He found a small apartment to live in in Brooklyn and promptly set about getting regular jobs. He worked at a coffee shop, a records store, a tattoo parlour, and as a street performance artist all before the age of twenty-one. Around this time, Mac began to have genial conversations with the homeless people in the subways or on the streets. He assumed, of course, that these people were well-spoken but just down on their luck. What other people saw, however, was the incoherent ramblings of the unfortunate and a strange young man trying to converse in return. Perhaps, they thought, he was a little touched as well.

4. At twenty-four, Mac realised that he was, in fact, a little off when he started understanding the babbling of children. The coos and half words that toddlers uttered were perfectly normal for Mac. Figuring he could put his uncanny ability to understand babies and toddlers to use for himself as a daycare provider. That was too difficult though, so he settled on male nanny.

5. Now a manny for a financially comfortable family, Mac did alright for himself. His apartment was slightly bigger, and he was able to afford the deposit to keep the mutt, Barney, around. He was also able to attempt to focus on his writing after work each day. Attempt being the keyword.

The lanky youth cruised down the street humming a jaunty tune. It was a balmy afternoon and Mac decided to take his company to the Museum of Modern Art. They had discussed it together, actually, and Kaitlyn described her love for the bright colours and odd sounds. Accompanied by the ever-present mutt Barney, Mac and Kaitlyn enjoyed the short walk from Kaitlyn's house to the museum. He grinned down at Kait, answering a question she posed him. "I imagine that they could, but where would the elephants live?" He lifted his eyebrows then, "Riddle me that." Kaitlyn laughed and held on tighter to his hand.

Barney was forced to stay outside, sadly, but would wait faithfully for the two-legger to come back. Saying their farewells to the dog, Mac then walked with Kaitlyn to the counter for their tickets. "One, please." Requested. He looked down at his date, who was making some noise about his reuest. A mocking put out sigh escaped from the man as hazel eyes gazed at Kaitlyn, then it was back to the man at the counter. "Make that two." This was stated as he swooped up his two-and-a-half year old charge and placed her on the counter, easy as you please. She had been making some sort of half words and noises. "She firmly believes that her age makes her a toddler, and not a baby."

Example first person entry of this particular character:

Man. Silly creatures go round at all hours. Two pm. Lambs are asleep but howlers are awake.

Or maybe those are the sirens.
